Get rid of Prickly heat with Ayurvedic Herbs and Remedies

‘Prickly heat’ is called ‘Pidaka’ in Ayurveda. This is caused due to excess sweating in hot and humid season. Prickly heat appears on the body areas where the sweat pores are clogged. The pores become blocked with dirt, cream, or powder. Any clothes you wear that cannot absorb sweat can worsen the problem.
Persons suffering from prickly heat experience rashes on different parts of the body, itching, tingling, and burning sensation. It mostly affects the areas like forehead, neck, back, limbs, armpits, and groin. Ayurveda believes that people with Pitta body type are more prone to prickly heat. The best way is to avoid exposure to heat and humidity. If the prickly heat is not taken care in due time, it can aggravate and cause bacterial infection.
You can prevent prickly heat by wearing cotton clothes that fits comfortably. Cucumber, bottle gourd, and water melon contain water and it cools the body giving relief from prickly heat. Those who have sensitive skin should drink at least ten glasses of water daily. Regular shower will reduce the heat. You can try some of the Ayurvedic herbs and remedies that will be beneficial in preventing and treating prickly heats.
Aloe Vera: The juice or gel of this herb is beneficial in soothing and curing the rashes. It relieves burning and itching. Aloe Vera is a wonderful and natural skin moisturizer. Its healing properties cure skin infection that occurs from too much itching. If you have Aloe Vera plant at home, you can simply pluck it and apply the sap on the affected skin area.
Neem: Prepare a paste of neem leaves and water, and apply on the affected area. Wash it off with cold water after it dries. This remedy will help in giving quick relief from prickly heat.
Sandalwood: Prepare a paste of white sandalwood powder and little rose water. Apply it on the affected area and let it dry. Wash it off with cold water.
Lavender: The lavender oil has healing properties that is recommended for skin problems. Add a few drops of lavender oil in water and bath with it. You can also soak a piece of cloth in this water and pat it on the affected area.
Coriander: Mix coriander powder in 50 ml of water and drink this daily. This will help in giving relief from prickly heat.
Ayurvedic herbs and remedies are the natural ways to heal your skin irritation problems. You can also prevent prickly heat by drinking coconut water, grapes and water melon juice, and plenty of buttermilk. Yoga and breathing exercise like ‘Pranayama’ (extension of breath) are highly beneficial in preventing and curing prickly heat. However, if the rashes become inflamed and infected severely, consult an Ayurvedic practitioner immediately.
